On August 1, 2026, a violent incident occurred at Wat Bueng Thong Lang in the Khlong Chan sub-district of Bangkok. According to reports from Khaosod Online Thailand, police from the Lat Phrao station were dispatched to the temple at approximately 5:10 PM following reports of a shooting during a funeral service.
Authorities identified the deceased as a 27-year-old man, identified as Mr. Phokai, who sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his torso and head. Two other individuals, identified as 26-year-old Mr. Yothin and 26-year-old Mr. Utsama, were also injured in the incident, with Mr. Yothin reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds to both legs.
Preliminary investigations suggest the motive may be linked to a prior dispute involving the suspect’s girlfriend and the deceased, allegedly related to an accidental firearm discharge that resulted in a previous death. The suspect remains at large, and police are currently conducting an active manhunt to apprehend the individual responsible.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights a localized criminal dispute rather than a general threat to public safety.
