  • Tawee Sodsong has advocated for a Bangkok-style administrative model to address long-standing issues in Thailand's southern provinces.

On November 8, 2026, Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, leader of the Prachachat Party and a member of the House Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights, addressed the 'Youth Community Challenge Lab' in Yala. During the event, he argued that the current administrative structure and development strategies in the southern region have failed because they prioritize physical infrastructure over human development. To achieve lasting peace, he proposed adopting a decentralization model similar to that of Bangkok, suggesting that local governance is the only viable path forward. The event, held at the Museum of Yala City, brought together youth networks and civil society representatives to discuss governance and community development. Other political figures, including representatives from the Kla Tham Party and local health advocates, also participated in the vision-sharing session. For residents and visitors, this proposal highlights ongoing political discourse regarding regional autonomy and the search for stability in the deep south. While the call for decentralization is a significant policy stance from a key political figure, it remains a proposal. It is not yet clear how such a model would be implemented or if it will gain sufficient support from the central government to move toward legislative action.
