Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flood Warning Issued for 40 Thai Provinces
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for 40 provinces, cautioning residents and travelers about heavy rain, flash floods, and rough seas.
On September 28, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather alert for 40 provinces across Thailand. According to Khaosod Online, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, particularly in the western and lower northern regions, western central areas, and the eastern region.
Authorities have warned that the accumulation of rainfall may trigger flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides, especially in low-lying areas and regions near hillsides. Residents and travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating areas prone to recurring flooding.
This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure cell moving into the Gulf of Mottama, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Maritime conditions are also affected, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand reaching heights of 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms.
Small boats in these regions have been advised to remain ashore until at least September 28. Travelers planning trips to coastal areas or mountainous regions should monitor local weather updates closely, as conditions may change rapidly. While the TMD has provided specific regional forecasts, the exact duration of the heavy rainfall remains subject to ongoing meteorological monitoring.
