Social Security Office Announces Compensation for Section 33 Employees Affected by Floods

Thailand's Social Security Office has clarified that Section 33 insured employees unable to work due to flooding may be eligible for compensation.

According to a report by Thai Post on September 27, 2026, the Social Security Office (SSO) has issued a reminder regarding benefits for Section 33 insured employees impacted by natural disasters.

Employees who are unable to commute to work due to flooding, or those whose employers have temporarily suspended operations due to the disaster and are not receiving wages, may be eligible to claim unemployment benefits under 'force majeure' conditions. The compensation is set at 50% of the daily wage, for a period not exceeding 90 days per instance.

For residents and long-term expats in Thailand, this announcement is significant as it outlines the financial safety net available during severe weather events. It provides a mechanism for income protection when business operations are disrupted by environmental factors.

It remains to be confirmed how individual claims will be processed and what specific documentation will be required by the SSO to verify the 'force majeure' status of each case. Those affected are advised to contact the Social Security Office directly or consult their employer to understand the specific application procedures and eligibility criteria relevant to their employment status.
