Chanthaburi Issues Red Alert as Flooding Claims Two Lives
Authorities in Chanthaburi have raised a red flag warning due to severe flooding across eight districts, resulting in two fatalities and urgent evacuation efforts.
On the morning of September 27, 2026, the Chanthaburi Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) escalated its flood warning from yellow to red. This follows a rapid rise in water levels in the Chanthaburi River, which neared a critical threshold of 3.50 meters due to heavy runoff from the Khao Khitchakut and Makham districts.
According to Khaosod Online, the flooding has impacted eight districts, leading to two confirmed deaths. In response, rescue teams are utilizing jet skis and boats to evacuate residents in affected areas, including communities along the Chanthaburi River and the Phakdi Ramphai Canal. Flash flooding was also reported in Tha Mai district, where water inundated Ban Khlong Sao within ten minutes. The Royal Irrigation Department is currently working to open floodgates at the Phakdi Ramphai Canal to divert water toward the sea.
For residents and travelers, the situation remains volatile. Those in low-lying areas or near the river are advised to move belongings to higher ground and relocate vehicles to safe zones. While authorities are actively managing the water flow, the full extent of the damage and the duration of the flood risk remain to be confirmed.
