Authorities in Chanthaburi have raised a yellow flag warning as heavy rainfall and runoff from Khao Khitchakut cause significant flooding, forcing evacuations.
On September 26, 2026, the Chanthaburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, in coordination with the Chanthaburi City Municipality, raised a 'yellow flag' at the Wat Chanthanaram Bridge. This signal serves as an urgent alert for residents and business owners in the inner economic zone to monitor the Chanthaburi River closely and prepare for potential flooding.
According to Khaosod Online, the alert follows a surge of water from Khao Khitchakut district, compounded by persistent heavy rainfall in the Khao Khitchakut, Kaeng Hang Maew, and Tha Mai districts. The influx of water has caused widespread flooding, with some areas, including the vicinity of Wat Krathing, experiencing water levels exceeding one meter. This has inundated homes, schools, and local roads, making travel difficult for small vehicles.
Emergency responders, including military personnel and the Sawang Katanyu Rescue Association, are currently using boats to evacuate residents from high-risk areas to temporary shelters. For residents and travelers in the region, this situation poses significant risks to mobility and property. It remains to be confirmed how long the heavy rainfall will persist and when water levels are expected to recede.
