Thai Ministry of Agriculture Activates Flood Response Center
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has launched a 24-hour flood monitoring center as heavy monsoon rains impact 21 provinces across Thailand.
On September 26, 2026, Thailand’s Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Suriya Juangroongruangkit, chaired a meeting at the Smart Water Operation Center to address the ongoing flood situation. With heavy monsoon rains currently affecting 21 provinces, the Ministry has implemented a proactive water management strategy focused on three phases: capturing water at the source, delaying flow in the middle reaches, and accelerating drainage at the end of the system.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights the potential for localized flooding and travel disruptions in affected regions. The Ministry emphasized that the four major dams in the Chao Phraya basin are currently capable of managing the water volume, though long-term structural solutions, such as a proposed drainage canal project connecting Chai Nat, Pa Sak, and the Gulf of Thailand, are being considered to mitigate future risks.
While the government maintains that current water levels are under control, the situation remains dynamic due to ongoing monsoon activity. Residents and visitors in flood-prone areas are advised to monitor local weather reports and official updates from the Royal Irrigation Department. It remains to be confirmed how the proposed long-term infrastructure projects will be funded and when they might be implemented, as the current focus remains on immediate 24-hour monitoring and emergency response.
