Thailand Establishes 24/7 Transport War Room to Combat Flood Disruptions
The Ministry of Transport has launched a dedicated emergency center to ensure continuous connectivity and provide rescue support for citizens affected by ongoing heavy flooding.
On September 26, 2026, the Thai government announced the establishment of a 24-hour emergency operations center, known as the 'Ministry of Transport Flood Response War Room.' According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploy-Talay Laksameesangchan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn initiated this center to coordinate road, rail, water, and air transport resources during the current flood crisis.
For residents and travelers, this initiative aims to prevent the isolation of communities by maintaining transport links. The Ministry has implemented several relief measures, including the deployment of high-clearance vehicles by the Department of Rural Roads and specialized shuttle services provided by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to assist those in flooded areas. Additionally, the government has prepared flat-bottom boats and jet skis for emergency rescue operations and has opened certain expressways for free use to facilitate movement.
While the War Room is now operational to integrate resources across all transport sectors, the full extent of the impact on specific transit routes remains fluid. Travelers are advised to monitor official updates from the Ministry of Transport regarding road closures or schedule changes, as the situation is subject to change based on weather conditions and water levels in affected regions.
