Thailand Issues Warning for Heavy Rainfall and Flash Floods
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across most of Thailand, effective through September 27, 2026.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its 10th weather warning (No. 226/2569) regarding severe weather conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across the Northern, Northeastern, Central, Eastern, and Southern regions, including Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, through September 27, 2026.
This weather pattern is driven by a strong low-pressure system moving along a monsoon trough, combined with intensified southwest monsoons over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Authorities have cautioned residents and travelers to remain vigilant against the risks of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes.
Marine conditions are also affected, with waves in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea expected to reach heights of 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in these upper regions are advised to remain ashore until September 27. Travelers are encouraged to avoid routes prone to recurring flooding and to monitor local updates closely. While the TMD has provided specific regional forecasts, the exact intensity of rainfall in localized areas remains subject to change.
