A public hearing regarding a proposed sugar and biomass power plant in Buriram was abruptly cancelled following violent clashes between opposing groups.
On September 25, 2026, a public hearing in Nong Plong, Chamni District, Buriram Province, intended to discuss the construction of a new sugar and biomass power plant, was terminated prematurely due to violent confrontations. According to Khaosod Online, tensions escalated between approximately 800 project supporters and members of the 'Ozone Rak Ban Kerd' group, who have consistently opposed the project due to environmental concerns.
The situation turned chaotic as participants began throwing stones and soil at one another near the stage. Despite the intervention of local police and crowd control units, the event descended into disorder, resulting in at least one individual sustaining a head injury from a projectile. District officials, including the Nang Rong District Chief and local police leadership, were present to observe the proceedings but were unable to maintain order, leading to the cancellation of the hearing to prevent further escalation.
