Infineon Opens Major Semiconductor Plant in Samut Prakan

According to Khaosod Online, German semiconductor leader Infineon Technologies is scheduled to officially open its new manufacturing facility in Samut Prakan on October 1, 2026. The project represents a significant investment of over 48 billion baht, marking a major milestone in Thailand’s efforts to advance its electronics industry toward high-value chip production.

The new plant will serve as Infineon’s third global production base for Power Modules—essential components for electric vehicles, energy systems, and data centers—following existing sites in Germany and China. Beyond manufacturing, the facility will include semiconductor testing operations and the company’s first large-scale research and development center in Thailand.

For residents and industry observers, this development signals a shift toward high-tech industrial growth in the region. The Board of Investment (BOI) has emphasized that the project includes a commitment to local supply chain integration, with a target of 60% local raw material usage. Furthermore, the agreement mandates the training of over 600 Thai personnel in science and technology fields, aiming to foster local expertise.
