Thai Ministry Inspects Data Center Environmental Impact in Bangkok
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has launched environmental inspections of data centers in Bangkok, starting with Telehouse in Huai Khwang, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
On September 25, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that Suchart Chomklin, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, has directed the Pollution Control Department (PCD) to collaborate with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to assess the environmental impact of data center operations. This initiative aims to proactively address potential concerns for local communities and residents.
The first facility to undergo inspection was Telehouse (Thailand) Co., Ltd., located in the Huai Khwang district. According to Dr. Surin Vorakitcharoen, Director-General of the PCD, officials conducted on-site assessments on September 21–22, 2026. The inspection covered noise levels, air quality, wastewater discharge, and heat emissions.
Preliminary findings indicate that the facility’s noise levels remain within established standards, and no oil or volatile organic compound (VOC) contamination was detected in the wastewater. For residents and visitors in the area, these inspections serve as a government effort to monitor the rapid growth of digital infrastructure in urban zones. While these initial results are positive, the ministry plans to continue its oversight of similar facilities across the city. Further assessments regarding long-term environmental sustainability and potential future regulations for data centers remain to be confirmed as the government continues its broader evaluation of the sector.
