During the visit, Chairman Watcharapong addressed criticisms from the opposition regarding the government's legislative progress. He asserted that the administration of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has been actively working on amendments to the Firearms Act since 2023. He defended the government's pace, suggesting that opposition members should conduct more thorough research before filing formal inquiries.
Regarding public safety, the committee highlighted data indicating that 83% of firearm-related cases over the past two to three years involved illegal, unregistered, or improperly transferred weapons, while only 17% involved legally registered firearms. For residents and travelers, this underscores the government's ongoing focus on tightening weapon regulations to improve security.
