Government Savings Bank Launches High-Interest Digital Savings Account

Thailand's Government Savings Bank (GSB) has introduced a new digital savings account offering a 2.50% annual interest rate on balances up to 10,000 THB.

The Government Savings Bank (GSB) of Thailand has announced the launch of its 'Digital Savings' account, accessible via the bank's MyMo mobile application. According to GSB Director Vitai Ratanakorn, the account offers an annual interest rate of 2.50% for balances not exceeding 10,000 THB. A key feature of this product is that the interest earned is tax-exempt.

This initiative is designed to integrate daily spending with savings, allowing users to manage their finances entirely through the MyMo app without needing to visit a physical bank branch. Existing GSB customers can open the account directly within the application. New customers are also eligible to apply by completing an identity verification process via the National Digital ID (NDID) system, provided they meet the bank's specific requirements for Thai nationals.

For residents and long-term visitors, this development highlights a shift toward more accessible digital banking services in Thailand. While the high interest rate provides a benefit for small-scale savings, potential users should note that the 2.50% rate applies only to the first 10,000 THB. Details regarding interest rates for balances exceeding this threshold or specific eligibility criteria for non-Thai residents remain subject to the bank's official terms and conditions, which should be verified directly through the MyMo application or official GSB channels.
