Flooding Impacts Six Districts in Ayutthaya as Chao Phraya Discharge Increases
Ayutthaya authorities are reinforcing flood defenses for historical sites as rising water levels from the Chao Phraya River affect thousands of households.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on September 24, 2026, six districts in Ayutthaya province are currently experiencing flooding. The situation follows an increase in water discharge from the Chao Phraya River, which has reached 1,750 cubic meters per second.
Local authorities report that the flooding has impacted 240 sub-districts, 74 villages, and 7 communities, affecting approximately 5,030 households located outside of the primary flood barriers. In response, the provincial governor has ordered the immediate reinforcement of bunkers and protective measures to safeguard the province's renowned historical sites from potential water damage. Officials are also coordinating the establishment of relief centers to assist affected residents.
For travelers and residents, this situation may lead to localized travel disruptions, particularly in low-lying areas near the riverbanks. While major tourist attractions are currently being fortified, visitors are advised to monitor local news for updates on road closures or access restrictions to historical parks.
