Residents in Ayutthaya's Phak Hai district face sudden flooding as water levels rise by one meter daily, following increased discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 24, 2026, residents in the Tha Din Daeng sub-district of Phak Hai, Ayutthaya, are struggling with rapid flooding. The surge follows a decision to increase water discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat, which has caused water levels in the Chao Phraya and Noi rivers to rise significantly.
Local residents reported that the water level increased by approximately one meter in a single day, catching many off guard. While the area is known for seasonal flooding, locals noted that the current rate of rise is much faster than the typical 10–20 centimeters per day they are accustomed to. Many households were unable to move their belongings to higher ground in time, resulting in property damage. Currently, boat transport is required to navigate the community as water has inundated the areas beneath homes and surrounding access roads.
For residents and travelers in the region, this situation highlights the volatility of water levels in areas outside flood embankments.
