Singaporean Man Sentenced for Abandoning 71 Cats
A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison after abandoning 71 cats in a flat for nearly two years, resulting in the deaths of nine animals.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, a 37-year-old Singaporean man has been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison following a case of severe animal neglect. The man, identified as Muhammad Khairul Naim Zainol, pleaded guilty to charges related to abandoning 71 cats in a residential flat in the Bukit Panjang district.
Investigations revealed that the man and his former wife began keeping the cats in 2019. Due to a lack of sterilization, the feline population grew rapidly. In April 2022, the couple moved out to live with the man's parents, leaving the cats behind in the apartment. The animals were left unattended for approximately 22 months. When the situation was discovered, it was found that nine of the 71 cats had died due to the neglect.
