Thai Weightlifter Theerapong Silachai Secures Bronze at 2026 Asian Games

Thai athlete Theerapong Silachai overcame knee injuries to win a bronze medal in the men's 60kg weightlifting category at the 2026 Asian Games.

According to Khaosod Online, 22-year-old Thai weightlifter Theerapong Silachai has successfully claimed a bronze medal in the men's 60kg division at the 2026 Asian Games. Theerapong posted a message on social media expressing his relief and pride, stating, "I did it."

His performance was marked by resilience; after failing his first two attempts in the snatch, he successfully lifted 126 kilograms on his third attempt. He followed this with a 173-kilogram lift in the clean and jerk, resulting in a total weight of 299 kilograms. Theerapong revealed that he had been competing while managing injuries to both of his knees. He noted that his initial struggles in the snatch were influenced by the pressure of his previous experience at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, where he failed to record a valid lift in that discipline.

For residents and visitors following the games, this achievement highlights the dedication of Thai athletes competing on the international stage despite physical setbacks. While the athlete has expressed satisfaction with his performance, further updates regarding his recovery from the knee injuries and his future competition schedule remain to be confirmed by the national sports association.
