Srettha Thavisin Addresses Dairy Surplus Crisis Through Social Initiative
Former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, through the Sermkla Foundation, has purchased surplus milk from the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand to support farmers and provide nutrition to vulnerable groups.
On September 24, 2026, former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, acting in his capacity as founder of the Sermkla Foundation, initiated a program to purchase surplus raw milk from the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO). This intervention aims to alleviate a market crisis where dairy farmers are struggling with an oversupply of raw milk.
The procured milk was donated to the Phaya Thai Home for Children and the Nonthaburi Home for Persons with Disabilities, with Minister of Social Development and Human Security Nikorn Somklang accepting the donation on behalf of the institutions. Srettha stated that this effort is part of a broader social mission to support both the agricultural sector and vulnerable populations, including children and individuals with disabilities, by ensuring access to quality nutrition.
This initiative follows previous efforts by Srettha to distribute dairy products to schools, foundations, and childcare centers in Bangkok, its vicinity, and Ratchaburi province. For residents and visitors, this highlights ongoing government and private sector efforts to stabilize local agricultural markets while addressing social welfare needs. While the immediate crisis is being mitigated through these donations, it remains to be seen what long-term policy measures the government will implement to prevent future market imbalances for Thai dairy farmers.
