Royal Irrigation Department Monitors Heavy Rainfall and Water Levels Across Thailand
Thailand's Royal Irrigation Department is actively managing water resources and monitoring flood risks following heavy rainfall in northern and central provinces.
According to Khaosod Online, the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) is closely monitoring weather patterns and water levels across Thailand to mitigate potential flooding. Director-General Wittaya Kaewmee stated that the agency is adjusting water management plans to accommodate runoff from northern regions, aiming to minimize impacts on residential areas and agricultural land.
Recent data indicates significant rainfall between September 19 and 20, with provinces such as Phrae, Chiang Rai, Kamphaeng Phet, and Sukhothai recording over 100 millimeters of rain. Specifically, Kamphaeng Phet recorded 146 millimeters, while Phitsanulok saw 136 millimeters. These conditions have led to rising water levels in various river basins, particularly the Chao Phraya.
For residents and travelers, this situation necessitates caution in low-lying areas and regions prone to flash floods. The RID has instructed local irrigation projects nationwide to remain vigilant, especially in the southern provinces where heavy, cumulative rainfall continues to pose a risk of water accumulation and flooding.
