Phuket Plans eVTOL Drone Integration for Traffic and Medical Emergencies
Phuket authorities are collaborating with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand to pilot eVTOL drone technology to improve traffic flow and emergency medical response.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, Phuket province is partnering with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI) to introduce electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and drone technology. The initiative aims to address the island's persistent traffic congestion and enhance the efficiency of emergency medical services.
The project proposes four initial routes connecting key locations, including Phuket International Airport, Patong, and local hospitals. By utilizing aerial transport, officials hope to significantly reduce travel times for critical patients and provide a premium travel experience for visitors.
For residents and travelers, this development could eventually offer a faster alternative to road travel, particularly in high-traffic areas like the route to Patong. However, the project is currently in the planning and preparation phase. Specific details regarding the timeline for implementation, safety regulations, and the cost of services remain to be confirmed. As the project progresses, stakeholders will need to address infrastructure requirements and regulatory frameworks to ensure the safe integration of these aircraft into Phuket’s airspace.
