Bangkok Launches Underground Power Line Project Ahead of IMF-World Bank 2026 Meetings

On September 23, 2026, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) officially launched an initiative to relocate overhead power and communication cables underground. According to Prachachat Business, the project focuses on key areas including Rama IV Road, Sathon Road, Witthayu Road, and Soi Suan Phlu.
Mr. Rachen Anwet, Deputy Governor of the MEA, presided over the ceremony, which involves the removal of utility poles and the clearing of overhead wires to enhance the city's landscape. This infrastructure upgrade is timed to coincide with preparations for the upcoming IMF-World Bank 2026 meetings, aiming to present a cleaner, more modern urban environment for international delegates and visitors.
