Temple Dispute in Kalasin Over 'Don't Touch My Pillow' Incident

A viral video depicting a heated verbal confrontation at Wat Bun Rueang Si in Kalasin province has sparked significant public debate. The incident, dubbed the 'Don't Touch My Pillow' affair, involved 89-year-old monk Phra Pan, who was filmed arguing with laypeople after moving a pillow in the temple's sermon hall.

According to Khaosod Online, Phra Pan claimed the conflict arose from a misunderstanding regarding cleaning duties, asserting he was merely returning the pillow to its usual spot. However, the temple's abbot, Phra Wilai Khantithammo, stated that the monk’s behavior has caused severe damage to the temple's reputation. The abbot alleged that Phra Pan has a history of aggressive behavior toward visitors, which has alienated the local community and discouraged them from participating in religious activities at the temple.

Church authorities noted that Phra Pan has a history of being expelled from various temples for similar conduct, only to return later. The abbot has declared that he will not allow the monk to remain at Wat Bun Rueang Si and is planning a formal meeting with local residents to finalize his expulsion. For residents and visitors, this incident highlights internal administrative challenges within local religious institutions.
