Authorities in Chanthaburi have refuted viral social media claims of an impending 'mega-flood' in Eastern Thailand, clarifying that current forecasts indicate seasonal heavy rainfall.
On September 23, 2026, the Chanthaburi Meteorological Station addressed widespread public concern following a viral social media post that warned of a 'mega-flood' hitting Eastern Thailand within 120 hours. Chalermporn Thipsopa, Director of the station, officially dismissed these claims, stating that there are currently no signs of a crisis or catastrophic flooding.
According to the official forecast, Chanthaburi is experiencing seasonal heavy rain, with a 70% probability of precipitation today. This likelihood is expected to rise to 75–85% between September 24 and 26. Authorities have advised residents and travelers in the region to remain vigilant regarding heavy rainfall and potential flash floods, particularly in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes, where accumulated water could pose risks.
The meteorological office emphasized that the viral warnings circulating online are unfounded and urged the public to avoid panic.
