Buriram Landlord Warns Others After Tenant Abandons Property
A Buriram homeowner is sharing his experience after a tenant left his rental property in disarray and failed to pay utility bills and rent.
On September 23, 2026, Naruecha Anthama, a 33-year-old resident of Nang Rong District, Buriram, shared his frustrating experience with a former tenant to warn other property owners. According to Khaosod Online, Naruecha had rented his house to a man working in the tow truck industry for 3,000 baht per month. Trusting the tenant’s polite demeanor, Naruecha waived the standard security deposit requirement.
Over the course of two months, the tenant repeatedly delayed rent payments, citing pending income. Eventually, the tenant informed the landlord he was moving out and promised to settle the outstanding balance. However, the tenant vacated the property without notice, taking his belongings—including an air conditioning unit he had installed—and leaving behind a significant amount of trash. Upon inspection, Naruecha discovered that the property was left in poor condition, with over 10 bags of garbage collected, and that both electricity and water bills remained unpaid.
For residents and property owners in Thailand, this incident highlights the importance of adhering to formal rental agreements and security deposit protocols, regardless of a tenant's initial impression. While this case serves as a cautionary tale regarding trust in informal rental arrangements, it remains to be confirmed whether the landlord will pursue legal action to recover the unpaid utility costs and damages.
