IEAT Increases Flood Preparedness for Industrial Estates Amid Heavy Rain Warning

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has issued an urgent directive for industrial estates in high-risk areas to heighten flood preparedness. According to Khaosod Online, this action follows a weather warning from the Thai Meteorological Department regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall expected across the Central, Northern, and Eastern regions, including Bangkok, Ayutthaya, and Samut Prakan, from September 23 to 27, 2026.

IEAT Governor Sumeth Tangprasert stated that the agency is prioritizing the protection of critical production bases to maintain investor confidence. Specific focus is placed on the Bang Pu and Ayutthaya industrial estates. Measures include maintaining a drainage capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per hour at Bang Pu, regular dredging of drainage channels, and keeping water retention ponds at low levels to accommodate potential runoff. Furthermore, the IEAT has deployed smart monitoring systems, including CCTV, SCADA control, and automated rainfall sensors, to provide real-time updates to operators.

For residents and travelers, these measures aim to ensure the stability of industrial operations and minimize potential supply chain disruptions. While the IEAT reports that flood defense infrastructure is currently robust, the effectiveness of these systems against the predicted rainfall remains to be confirmed.
