Opposition Party Urges Urgent Action Against Blackchin Tilapia in Kalasin
The People's Party has called on the Ministry of Agriculture to prevent the spread of invasive blackchin tilapia in Kalasin province to protect local fish nurseries.
According to a report by Matichon Online on September 23, 2026, the People's Party (Prachachon Party) has formally requested that the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives direct the Department of Fisheries to take immediate action against the spread of blackchin tilapia in Kalasin province.
Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat, representing the party, emphasized the need for swift intervention to prevent the invasive species from establishing a foothold in the region. The party expressed concern that if left unchecked, the situation in Kalasin could mirror the severe ecological damage previously observed in southern Thailand, where the fish decimated local fish nurseries and disrupted aquatic ecosystems.
