Thailand’s PromptPay Digital Payments Hit Record Highs in August 2026
National ITMX reports a surge in digital transactions for August 2026, with PromptPay reaching 2.53 billion transactions and a record-breaking single-day peak.
According to data released by National ITMX, Thailand’s PromptPay digital payment system experienced significant growth in August 2026. The platform recorded a total of 2.53 billion transactions, marking a 12% increase compared to the previous year, with a total value of 4.37 trillion baht, reflecting a 3% year-on-year growth.
A notable highlight occurred on August 31, 2026, when the system processed a record-breaking 101.13 million transactions in a single day. As of August, the system reached 83.44 million registered accounts, comprising 83.02 million individual users and 0.42 million business entities.
For travelers and residents, these figures underscore the deepening integration of digital payments into daily life across Thailand. The widespread adoption of QR code payments means that most vendors, from street food stalls to large retailers, are equipped to handle digital transactions, making cash less essential for daily activities. However, visitors should remain aware that while digital infrastructure is robust, carrying a small amount of physical currency remains a prudent backup for smaller vendors or areas with limited connectivity.
