Samut Sakhon Teens Capture Local Stories in Panasonic Cares Project

A recent collaborative project titled 'Young Rak Samut Sakhon,' organized by Panasonic Thailand and BIG CAMERA, has empowered local youth to document their home province. Over the course of a month, students from eight schools in Samut Sakhon participated in workshops focused on storytelling, cinematography, and content creation. Mentored by experts from LUMIX Thailand and BIG CAMERA, the participants explored their surroundings—ranging from the famous Ban Phaeo aromatic coconuts to local mangrove forests—to produce short documentaries.

This initiative provided students with professional training in camera operation and narrative development, encouraging them to find significance in everyday local experiences. Out of the eight teams that participated, three were selected for awards, showcasing the potential for youth-led storytelling to bring fresh perspectives to familiar landscapes.

For residents and visitors, this project highlights the cultural richness of Samut Sakhon beyond its industrial reputation, offering a glimpse into the community through the eyes of its younger generation. While the project has concluded its initial phase, it remains to be seen if these documentaries will be made available for wider public viewing or if the program will expand to other provinces. The initiative serves as a reminder of how local heritage can be preserved and reinterpreted through modern creative tools.
