ASEAN Accelerates ATIGA Trade Agreement Implementation
ASEAN member states have agreed to fast-track the second protocol of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) to 2026 to bolster supply chain resilience.
According to Khaosod Online, ASEAN nations have committed to accelerating the implementation of the second protocol of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA). During the 40th ASEAN Free Trade Area Council meeting held on September 19, 2026, in Manila, officials agreed to bring the effective date forward to within 2026, ahead of the original June 1, 2027, deadline.
Ms. Kirida Bhaopichitr, Assistant to the Minister of Commerce, stated that this move is designed to enhance the region's ability to withstand global trade volatility and supply chain disruptions. The updated agreement aims to provide greater stability for businesses, particularly micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Furthermore, the bloc is advancing the 'ASEAN Single Window' initiative to streamline trade documentation and facilitate smoother cross-border operations.
