Royal Irrigation Department Issues Flood Alert for 11 Provinces
Authorities have warned 11 provinces along the Chao Phraya River basin to prepare for rising water levels due to increased discharge rates and heavy rainfall forecasts.
On September 23, 2026, the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) issued an urgent notification regarding the Chao Phraya River basin. Acting on behalf of the Director-General, Deputy Director-General Dech Lekwichai announced that water discharge rates will be increased to between 1,500 and 2,000 cubic meters per second.
This adjustment is expected to cause water levels to rise in 11 provinces: Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, and Bangkok.
According to Khaosod Online, this measure follows a warning from the Thai Meteorological Department regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from September 23 to 27, 2026. The weather conditions are expected to impact the North, lower Northeast, Central, East, and South regions, potentially triggering flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and near waterways.
