Driver Fined for Obstructing Emergency Vehicle on Bangkok Expressway
Authorities have penalized a driver for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle escorting a critically ill monk on the Second Stage Expressway.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Traffic Police Division (TFPD) has taken action against the driver of a white BYD electric vehicle for obstructing an emergency escort. The incident occurred on the Second Stage Expressway near the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal.
Video footage circulating on social media showed the vehicle remaining in the right lane and failing to yield to a Royal Initiative police escort, which was transporting a critically ill monk in an ambulance. Following an investigation, the driver was summoned to the Traffic Police Division, where they were formally charged and fined for failing to give way to an emergency vehicle.
This incident serves as a reminder for both residents and travelers in Thailand regarding road safety protocols. When encountering emergency vehicles using sirens or flashing lights, drivers are advised to remain calm, reduce speed, and move to the side of the road to allow passage. The police emphasized that yielding is critical, as every second can be vital for patient survival.
