Heavy rainfall has triggered severe flash floods in Mae Hong Son's Sob Moei district, causing infrastructure damage and cutting off access to local villages.
On September 22, 2026, a 'rain bomb' event caused significant flash flooding in Siwa Der village, located in the Mae Sam Laep sub-district of Sob Moei, Mae Hong Son. According to Khaosod Online, the surge of water destroyed a school bridge and caused extensive damage to riverbanks, roads, and walls. Local residents were forced to evacuate as the water levels rose rapidly.
Emergency response teams and medical personnel were dispatched to the area; however, rescue efforts have been hampered by damaged roads that have cut off access to the village. Authorities plan to deploy heavy machinery on September 23 to clear debris and restore transportation routes.
Mae Hong Son Governor Wiboon Waewbandit has issued a warning for residents to remain vigilant against further flash floods, sudden water level rises, and landslides between September 22 and 27. The warning specifically highlights risks near the Moei, Yuam, and Mae Sariang rivers and their tributaries.
