Rangsit University Reports Sharp Rise in Thai Household Living Costs
A new index from Rangsit University reveals that Thai household living costs have surged since Q2 2026, primarily driven by rising fuel and commodity prices.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, Rangsit University has launched the inaugural 'Cost of Living Index' (CLI) for Thai households. The data indicates a significant increase in living expenses starting from the second quarter of 2026, largely attributed to escalating fuel costs and rising prices for consumer goods.
The study highlights that the average financial burden across the country has risen by 8,362.4 baht per household per quarter, which equates to approximately 2,787.5 baht per month. Residents in Bangkok are facing the most severe impact, with their monthly expenses increasing by over 3,000 baht. The report notes that the burden related to fuel costs has increased sevenfold.
For residents and expatriates, this trend suggests a tightening of household budgets as essential costs continue to climb.
