Thai Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning for September 23–27
A severe weather alert has been issued for most of Thailand, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected due to a low-pressure system.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued its third warning (No. 219/2569) regarding severe weather conditions across Thailand, effective from September 23 to September 27, 2026. According to Khaosod Online, a strong low-pressure system currently off the coast of central Vietnam is expected to move across the country, coinciding with a monsoon trough and strengthening southwest monsoons over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents and travelers should anticipate heavy to very heavy rainfall across the North, lower Northeast, Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), the East, and the South. The weather pattern is expected to impact the lower Northeast and Eastern regions first before spreading to other areas.
For those living in or visiting Thailand, this weather poses a risk of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near hillsides or natural waterways. Authorities advise avoiding travel through areas prone to recurring flooding. Additionally, maritime conditions are expected to deteriorate, with wave heights in the upper Gulf of Thailand projected to reach 2–3 meters. Travelers are encouraged to monitor local news for updates, as the exact path and intensity of the low-pressure system remain subject to change as it moves inland.
