Flood Alert Issued for Ayutthaya as Chao Phraya Discharge Increases
Authorities have warned of rising water levels in Ayutthaya province following an increase in discharge rates from the Chao Phraya Dam.
On September 22, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas chaired a meeting to coordinate flood response efforts in Central Thailand. According to Prachachat Business, the Chao Phraya Dam has adjusted its water discharge rate to between 1,000 and 1,300 cubic meters per second.
This operational change is expected to cause water levels in downstream areas to rise by 0.5 to 1.5 meters. Officials have identified six districts in Ayutthaya province as being at risk, particularly those situated in low-lying areas.
