Unexploded Mortar Shell Discovered in Pai River
Authorities have cordoned off an area in Pai District, Mae Hong Son, following the discovery of a 60mm mortar shell in the river.
On September 22, 2026, local authorities in Pai District, Mae Hong Son, responded to reports of a hazardous discovery in the Pai River. According to Khaosod Online, a 60mm mortar shell was found in the Mueang Paeng sub-district.
In response, a joint team consisting of the Pai Police Station, military personnel from the Sonabandit Camp (7th Infantry Regiment, 5th Battalion), and local administrative officials have secured the site. The area has been cordoned off to ensure public safety while the authorities await the arrival of a specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit from the central military command to safely neutralize the device.
For residents and travelers in the area, officials have issued a strict warning: do not approach, touch, or attempt to move any suspicious objects. It is essential to respect all barriers and follow the instructions provided by local law enforcement. If any additional suspicious items are spotted, the public is urged to evacuate the immediate vicinity and report the findings to the Pai Police Station immediately.
Updates regarding the situation will be provided by the police once the EOD team has completed their operation and the area is declared safe. As of now, the exact origin of the shell remains under investigation.
