PTTEP Approves Investment for Busabong Gas Field Development

PTTEP has reached a Final Investment Decision to develop the Busabong gas field in the Gulf of Thailand, with production expected to commence in 2028.

PTTEP Energy Development, a subsidiary of PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), has officially reached a Final Investment Decision (FID) to develop the Busabong natural gas field located within the G3/65 project area in the Gulf of Thailand. According to Montri Rawanchaikul, CEO of PTTEP, this decision follows successful exploration efforts and marks the transition into the development phase.

The company estimates a two-year development timeline for the site. Production is projected to begin in 2028 with an initial output of approximately 30 million cubic feet per day. PTTEP plans to scale this capacity to 40 million cubic feet per day by 2030.

For residents and those interested in Thailand’s economic landscape, this project represents a strategic move to bolster domestic energy security and support the nation's industrial energy needs. As Thailand continues to manage its energy resources, such developments are key indicators of the country's long-term infrastructure planning. While the timeline for production is set, the project remains subject to operational progress and technical execution over the next two years. Further updates regarding the project's impact on local energy pricing or broader economic indicators remain to be seen as development proceeds.
