Thailand’s Department of Lands Launches Solar Rooftop Initiative
The Department of Lands has partnered with the MEA and PEA to install solar panels on 100 offices nationwide to promote green energy.
On September 22, 2026, Thailand’s Department of Lands signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to implement a solar rooftop project. According to Khaosod Online, this initiative aims to install solar power systems across 100 land offices throughout the country.
Deputy Minister of Interior, Phonphir Suwannachawi, presided over the signing ceremony, emphasizing that the project aligns with the Ministry of Interior’s “ACTION 5 PLUS” policy. This framework focuses on improving public services while prioritizing environmental sustainability and the transition toward a Net Zero emissions goal. Department of Lands Director-General Pornpot Penpas stated that the project is designed to optimize government resource usage and modernize the management of land offices.
For residents and visitors, this move represents a shift toward more sustainable government infrastructure. While the initiative is currently focused on administrative buildings, it reflects a broader national push toward clean energy adoption. It remains to be confirmed how quickly the installation process will proceed across the 100 designated locations and whether this will lead to further energy-saving measures in other public service sectors.
