Thai Cabinet Approves Billion-Baht Energy-Efficient Housing Initiative
The Thai government has launched a 1.05 billion baht project to provide low-interest loans for energy-efficient housing, targeting low-to-middle-income residents.
On September 22, 2026, the Thai Cabinet approved a new initiative aimed at promoting energy-efficient and environmentally friendly housing. According to Khaosod Online, the project is valued at approximately 1.05 billion baht (32.08 million USD) and is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI).
The National Housing Authority has been authorized to sign an agreement to implement this five-year program, which runs from 2026 to 2030. The initiative seeks to improve living standards for low-to-middle-income citizens by providing access to affordable, green housing while supporting Thailand’s national goals for greenhouse gas reduction under the Paris Agreement. Funding includes a 3.14 million USD grant from the GEF, supplemented by investments from the National Housing Authority and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
For residents, this program may eventually offer more sustainable and cost-effective living options.
