Rising Mobile Usage in Thailand Linked to Government Economic Stimulus
A national survey reveals a significant increase in mobile phone usage among Thais, driven by the necessity to access government economic stimulus programs online.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the National Statistical Office of Thailand has released findings from a Q2 2026 survey of 86,880 households. The data indicates a steady rise in information and communication technology (ICT) usage across the country. Notably, 92.8% of the population aged six and older are now internet users, with 96.2% utilizing mobile phones.
Experts attribute this growth to the increasing reliance on mobile devices to participate in government-led economic stimulus measures, which require digital registration and interaction. While mobile phone ownership and usage continue to climb, the survey highlights a long-term decline in household computer ownership, as smartphones increasingly replace traditional PCs for daily tasks.
