Ministry of Digital Economy Responds to TH-AI Passport Inquiry

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has announced its willingness to undergo an audit by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) regarding the 'TH-AI Passport' project. This follows calls from the opposition for an investigation into the project's procurement and transparency standards.

According to Prachachat Business, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Nan Bunthida Somchai, stated that the ministry is prepared to provide all necessary information to ensure accountability. The opposition has questioned why the project did not fall under the 'Integrity Pact'—a mechanism designed to prevent corruption in public procurement. The Ministry clarified that the project was submitted to the Comptroller General's Department for review, which determined that it did not meet the specific criteria required for the Integrity Pact.

For residents and travelers, this development highlights ongoing administrative oversight regarding digital infrastructure projects in Thailand. While the project is currently under scrutiny, there is no indication of service disruption for passport holders or applicants. The situation remains a matter of internal government procedure.
