Bangkok Approves Skywalk Upgrades and Unified Ticketing Roadmap

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has officially approved a renovation project for the skywalk connecting the BTS Chidlom station to the Ratchaprasong area. According to Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon, the upgrades will focus on enhancing pedestrian safety, specifically through the installation of anti-slip flooring and improved CCTV surveillance systems.

For residents and travelers, these improvements are intended to provide a more secure and accessible walking environment in one of the city's busiest commercial districts. The project is part of a broader effort by the BMA to modernize urban infrastructure.

In addition to the physical upgrades, the BMA is accelerating the transfer of assets and liabilities related to the Green Line and Gold Line rail systems to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). This administrative shift is a critical step toward the implementation of a unified ticketing system, which is currently scheduled to launch on January 1, 2027.

While the BMA has greenlit the skywalk renovations, specific timelines for the start and completion of the construction work have not yet been finalized. Furthermore, the successful integration of the unified ticketing system remains subject to the completion of the ongoing asset transfer process between the city and the MRTA.
