Thailand to Proceed with Local Official Appointments Following Exam Fraud Scandal

On September 22, 2026, Deputy Minister of Interior Worasit Leangprasert announced that the government is moving forward with the appointment of local government officials. This follows the revocation of the status of more than 4,000 individuals previously found to have been involved in an exam fraud scandal.

According to the Ministry, officials appointed in the first three rounds are required to complete their transfers by October 9. Following this, the government will begin filling the vacancies created by the disqualifications. New candidates from the national waiting list are scheduled to report for duty on October 19. The Ministry emphasized that this timeline is intended to restore fairness to those who were bypassed during the initial rounds of hiring.
