The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for 33 provinces, including Bangkok, due to heavy rainfall expected on September 22, 2026.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather alert for 33 provinces across Thailand. On September 22, 2026, heavy rain is expected to cover approximately 80% of these areas, including the lower Northeast, lower Central region, Bangkok and its surrounding vicinities, the East, and the eastern coast of the South.
This weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough passing through the central and eastern regions, connecting to a low-pressure system in the central South China Sea, alongside a moderate southwest monsoon. Residents and travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution regarding potential flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near hillsides. Authorities have specifically warned against traveling through routes prone to recurring flooding.
For maritime activities, the upper Andaman Sea is experiencing moderate conditions with waves reaching 1–2 meters, and exceeding 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to avoid sailing in stormy conditions. While the immediate alert covers September 22, the TMD has indicated that further weather developments are expected between September 23 and 27. Travelers should monitor local news for updates, as conditions may change rapidly depending on the movement of the monsoon trough.
