Pet Healthcare Spending Surges in Thailand as Preventive Care Gains Popularity
KTC reports an 11% increase in pet-related credit card spending in Thailand, driven by a shift toward preventive health and personalized veterinary care.
According to data from KTC (Krungthai Card Public Company Limited), spending on pet-related services in Thailand rose by 11% between January and August 2026 compared to the same period last year. Notably, expenditures at veterinary hospitals saw a 15% increase, signaling a significant shift in how pet owners manage their animals' well-being.
During the 27th 'KTC FIT Talk' event, held in collaboration with Thonglor Pet Hospital and PetGeneX, experts highlighted a transition from reactive 'treatment-only' models to proactive, personalized health planning. This trend emphasizes long-term care, including regular health screenings, risk assessment, and disease prevention tailored to individual animals.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this shift reflects a growing availability of advanced veterinary services. While technologies such as stem cell and exosome therapies are gaining attention, experts caution that these options must be evaluated based on specific medical indications and the individual needs of the pet under professional veterinary guidance.
This trend is important for pet owners to note as they plan for long-term veterinary costs and seek specialized care. While the data confirms a rise in spending and a change in consumer behavior, the long-term efficacy and widespread accessibility of advanced regenerative treatments remain subjects for ongoing veterinary evaluation and individual consultation.
