Typhoon Disrupts Thai Windsurfing Training at Asian Games
Thai windsurfing athletes in Aichi-Nagoya have shifted to land-based training due to typhoon conditions preventing sea access.
According to a report from Khaosod Online, the Thai national windsurfing team currently in Japan for the 20th Asian Games has been forced to adjust its preparation schedule. Due to the arrival of a typhoon in the Aichi-Nagoya region, athletes are currently unable to practice on the water.
The team, consisting of four athletes—William MacMillan, Siriporn Kaewduang-ngam, Wachirawit Than-up, and Chanatkan Charoensuk—is now focusing on physical conditioning on land under the guidance of coaches Sakda Sakulfang and Natthapong Phonoppharat, alongside sports scientist Somphop Sakhondee.
For residents and travelers in the Aichi-Nagoya area, this weather event serves as a reminder of the potential for significant disruption to outdoor activities and local transport during typhoon season. While the athletes are prioritizing safety by staying off the water, the broader impact on the Asian Games schedule remains to be confirmed as organizers monitor the storm's progression. Those in the region are advised to follow local meteorological updates and official safety instructions regarding the severe weather conditions.
