Thai Government Announces Key Security Appointments for Southern Border Provinces
The Anutin administration has appointed new leadership for the National Security Council and the Fourth Army Area to address the ongoing unrest in Thailand's deep south.

According to Khaosod Online, General Chaiyapruek Duangpraphat, currently the Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), replacing the previous civilian official. Additionally, Major General Chakrit Ujaratana has been promoted to Commander of the Fourth Army Area, succeeding Lieutenant General Norathip Pojanok, who is moving to the position of Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army.
Both officials are scheduled to assume their new roles on October 1, 2026. These appointments are critical as the government seeks to manage the security situation in the region, which has recently seen sporadic but lethal violence, including a recent attack on volunteer defense corps members in Sukhirin, Narathiwat.
