NBTC Approves 40 Billion Baht Budget for Nationwide Connectivity Expansion
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has launched a five-year, 40-billion-baht project to expand internet and telecommunications infrastructure across Thailand.
According to Khaosod Online, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has officially approved the fourth version of its Universal Service Obligation (USO) plan. Signed by NBTC Chairman Dr. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck on May 22, 2026, this initiative represents a significant expansion of the country's digital infrastructure strategy.
The project, which has been allocated a budget of 40 billion baht, aims to provide comprehensive internet and telecommunications services throughout Thailand over a five-year period, spanning from May 30, 2026, to 2030. This marks a substantial increase from the previous iteration, which was limited to a one-year timeframe and an 8-billion-baht budget.
For residents and long-term visitors, this development is significant as it signals a government-backed effort to improve digital connectivity, potentially leading to more reliable internet access in remote or underserved areas.
