Thailand Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning for September 23–27
A severe weather alert has been issued for most of Thailand, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected due to a low-pressure system.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its first warning (No. 217/2569) regarding severe weather conditions expected across the country from September 23 to 27, 2026. According to Khaosod Online, a strong low-pressure system originating off the coast of central Vietnam is moving toward Thailand, coinciding with an active monsoon trough and strengthening southwest monsoons over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Regions expected to be impacted include the North, the lower Northeast, the Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), the East, and the South. Residents and travelers in these areas should prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes.
For those currently in Thailand, it is advised to monitor local weather updates closely and avoid traveling through areas prone to recurring flooding. Additionally, sea conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to become rough, with higher waves anticipated in the upper Gulf. While the TMD has identified the general timeline and affected regions, specific localized impacts and the exact intensity of the rainfall in individual provinces remain subject to change as the weather system progresses. Travelers are encouraged to exercise caution and follow guidance from local authorities.
